On February 27, and 28, 2006, a heavy rain poured down causing a lot of losses in the urban district of Kanyosha as has noticed our observer in Bujumbura capital city. He also learnt from the population and administration that more than 150 houses were destroyed, two persons died and two others disappeared probably taken away by the flood.
According to inhabitants of the locality stricken by the floods, the question lies in the Nyabugiga River which is located between the locality of Bihara and Sagamba, which overflows when it rains causing damage. The gutters and tubes transporting henceforth rainwater towards the Lake Tanganyika being obstructed, water overflows and carries all on its passage: crops, houses... The victims of the catastrophe have not been able to save anything.
Most of the victims sought refuge in the neighbouring places which have not been damaged by the rain. The population of the place asks the administration to help them by providing them with food, helping them to rebuild their houses and rebuilding suitable water pipelines.
The victims wonder where are the deputies and other elected officials of the district who do not worry about the fate of their voters after a such aftermath.
