A car accident caused a heavy loss of human lives in the commune of Gashikanwa.
A car belonging to the Ministry for Solidarity, Human rights and Gender made a fatal accident in the evening of April 11, 2006 around 6: 30 The accident happened on the road Ngozi- Muyinga, at Nini locality in Gashikanwa commune of the province of Ngozi,in the nothern part of the country.
The accident was caused by a cyclist who was attempting to cross the road. The driver tried to avoid bumping into the cyclist, but while deviating, the vehicle went straight into a group of 16 people who were along the road.
The loss has been very heavy with five people killed right away and another who died the next day. The victims are: Ntamagendero Zacharie, Minani Firmon, Niyongabo Mariam, Sikobizama Issa, Fidèle and another who has not been identified.
Other 10 persons were wounded, and some seriously. Those who were slightly injured have been taken to the Health Centre of Gweza, while others who were seriously wounded have been rushed to the hospital of Ngozi for medical care.
