Since the Burundi government launched the disarmament campaign of the civil population in April 2006, 13 persons of the commune of Buyengero in Bururi province have already been recorded as illegal weapon holders while 40 others declare that they have ammunitions: bullets and grenades.
Let’s mention that in that commune, most of the guardians of peace still hold weapons. Out of 1500 guardians of peace that counts the commune, only 400 of them have received the little money that the government granted them for demobilisation.
The population appreciated this disarmament campaign, because the weapons illegally detained by the population are creating a permanent situation of insecurity.
