Heavy rain destroyed houses and plantations in the commune of Mabayi.

Heavy rain poured down in the commune of Mabayi in the province of Cibitoke on August, 28, 06 caused a heavy loss of several houses and plantations destroyed. In a report addressed to the governor of Cibitoke province, administrator of the commune of Mabayi, Hatungimana Jean Marie Vianney, reported that the rain completely damaged fields of banana plantations, sweet potatoes, fruit and vegetables.

During a visit he made in the zones of Ruhororo and Butahana, it was noted that several houses and roofs blew up. In the zone of Ruhororo, 300 houses were destroyed and 680 others damaged in the zone of Butahana. It is also reported that several goats and hens perished. The losses from other localities are not yet known.

The population will suffer from hunger and the administrator asked the governor to make contact with humanitarian associations which can help.
