One person killed and another wounded by a grenade in the urban district of Cibitoke.

On October 23, 2006, one person, Bernard Seburikoko alias Muzungu, was killed by a grenade launched in his vehicle by an unidentified person. It was around 20:30 pm when the victim was chatting with Zachary alias Gasongo, one of his friends with whom he had been travelling with that day from Rugombo commune in the province of cibitoke from where they had been for banana wine supply. Let’ s mention that they are both suppliers and sellers of banana wine in urban district of cibitoke , When they were at the gate, about to get into the enclose, a person in long coat came, greeted them and talked to them for a while, just the time to drop gently between the legs of Bernard a grenade which he had in his left hand. He then left quietly. The grenade then exploded, killing Bernard right away and seriously wounding his friend Zachary who was sitting next him.

The first suspected person behind the crime is the son of the victim and the police has arrested him. He was first detained in the dungeon of the urban district of Cibitoke, then was transferred in the Special brigade of investigations.

According to people who know him, the so suspected is an ill- behaved man and had serious conflicts with his father. He asked his father to give him a part of his wealth but his father did not want to. Then the son took one of his father’s houses by force. He also stole his father’s car that he hid at one of his friends but the car was found few days later. He also stole money from his father so often.

According to the neighbours of the victim, Bernard had tried to initiate his son in business but without success. All that he wanted was to inherit from his father. This is why most people think that he might be behind this crime in order to inherit from his father. Moreover, he often threatened him to kill him one day and his father was aware of it as he once said it to one of the League Iteka staff.
