Criminality is taking a worrying pace in Ruyigi province. Cases of assassination are reported in several communes of the province. Since the beginning of April 2007, 16 people have been already assassinated, according to local police sources.

These cases are reported especially in the communes of Butanganzwa, Nyabitsinda and Kinyinya. The mobile of these crimes is often related to land conflicts, settling of scores and sorcery.

Presumed authors are neighbors or members of the family. Another thing to deplore is that some local administrative officials are involved in a manner or another in cases of settling of scores.
