During a family festival, a mental patient exploded a grenade which caused the death of many people and injuried others on September 6th, 2007 in Karira locality, in a site of displaced people of Gasorwe in the province of Muyinga. Several of these victims are of the same family or relationships who had come to share the joy with a girl, accompanied by her husband, who had come to pay a visit to her parents.

The presumed criminal, Minani, exploded the grenade amid people who were dancing close to him. The grenade killed 16 people and wounded 11 others of whom himself. Let us specify that Minani is the son of the visited family.

According to the neighbors, Minani suffered from psychic trouble and he had been taken to pentecotists church so that they pray for his recovery. They add that he often complained accusing wronglly his family of having caused trouble to him. Indeed, Minani had married when he was 17 years old but when his wife saw that he had mental troubled, she left him and Minani wrongfully accused his family of being responsible for that.

The act was premeditated because when they were drinking, he said to his friends that he was taking his last glass. Nobody believed him thinking that he was still ill.
