On August 7th, 2008 about 20 hours , the household of Eric Niyonkuru was attacked by a group of armed persons with grenades in Gasebeyi locality, Mivo zone of Ngozi province. Eric Niyonkuru, the head of the family, Sierra his daughter as well as his cow died immediately whereas Odette Manirambona, his wife and Godelieve Habiyambere, his mother in law both seriously wounded were evacuated towards Mivo hospital were they are having care.

However, Onesphore Nzeyimana one of the suspected perpetrators, was arrested by the police and currently detained in Ngozi judiciary police.

According to the local officials, the reason behind the murder would be related to land conflicts opposing the two brothers. Judiciary investigations are going on.
