The Rwandan asylum seekers of Songore site were repatriated against their will.
The Rwandan authorities in collaboration with the Burundian authorities repatriated by force on Sunday the 12th June 2005 all Rwandese asylum seekers who were in the site of Songore in commune of Kiremba in the province of Ngozi.
These refugees were embarked by force in trucks which had come from Rwanda for that matter. During this operation, some Rwandans succeeded to flee. Some escaped before the Lorries left while others jumped of the trucks.
Some of them asked shelter in the neighbouring population and others took refuge in the communes of Kiremba and Marangara. There are also those who headed to Tanzania.
Let us recall that the two refugees who were arrested on Thursday 9 June 2005 around 15 hours by Burundi prosecutor of Ngozi were accused of genocide of 1994 in Rwanda. Another person, an agent of the HCR at Muyinga, Madeberi Edward, accused of having protested against the arrest of the two Rwandans has also been arrested.
