Some Congolese fleeing the war crossed the borders of Burundi from the East of DRC.
Fights broke out on Thursday November 3, 2005 in the East of Congo between the Maî - Maî combatants of colonel Abdul and those of the governmental army of the colonel Musala. Some families have already crossed the Congolese border to take refuge in Burundi in the commune of Rugombo.
The first refugees crossed Friday morning on November 04, 2005. On Monday they were already 52 people among whom 9 men, 20 women and 23 children. Authorities of the province of Cibitoke went to the Rusizi bordering river on Friday to inquire on the situation.
According to the representative of these refugees, Mubengwa Kisubi, they had not got any assistance except food aid of 25 Kgs of flour and 1 kg of dry fish that the Red Cross has given them. They sleep outside at night without mattress nor blankets.
The Burundian authorities warned that nobody should be sheltered in families to avoid problems of insecurity which could worsen the security situation, which is already bad,
