The Minister of Justice has just created a new commission which, once more, will go through the question of the political prisoners in Burundi. The president of the party Sahwanya Frodebu, Honourable Léonce Ngendakumana, speaking to the Radio Isanganiro, wonders whether it is not a more needless commission at the image of the other commissions which were created with the mandate of defining what it is a political prisoner.

According to Leonce, if its mandate is to define who is a political prisoner in Burundi; this commission is doomed to failure, like the previous commissions. The commissions gave theirs reports to the goverment but nothing has been done to release all these political prisoners.

Honourable Ngendakumana denounces that the true criminals behind the assassination of the president Ndadaye and that leaders of the political parties and armed movements who are responsible of war crimes which followed this assassination are free.

For him, today’s government resulting from the elections should have the courage to release all the political prisoners by taking into the account of the objective and subjective criteria which were defined by the commissions which were set up to study the question. The question of the political prisoners should be seen trhough political sight, has he concluded.
