The right of worship is not respected in some secondary schools.
Burundi is a laic state and consequently the right of worship is guaranteed for everyone. However, in practice, this right is not respected in certain schools where the student cannot fully practice the worship, other than that of the religious community which holds the school.
An illustrative case is that of the Lycee of Busiga, in Ngozi province where the Headmistress, Sister Sananiye Marie Thérèse, has just chased from school two students, accusing them of having changed their religion, shifting from Catholicism to Protestantism.
These two victims, Yaminzigama Claudine and Ntunzwenimana Souavis, both of the upper cycle of the so- called lycee were respectively chased from school on January 12, and February 11, 2006.
